About Oval Lab-Grown Diamonds

What lab-grown means

Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds: the same carbon crystal, hardness and sparkle as a mined diamond, grown in a lab instead of taken from the ground. Even a gemologist needs specialist equipment to tell them apart.

What certified means

Certified means an independent lab, usually IGI for lab-grown diamonds, has examined the stone and issued a grading report describing its carat weight and quality. The report number is on each diamond’s page, so you can check it on the lab’s website.

Oval Diamond FAQs

Do oval diamonds look bigger than round diamonds?

Yes. Ovals spread more of their weight across the top, so an oval usually looks larger than a round diamond of the same carat.

What is a bow tie in an oval diamond?

A bow tie is a darker band across the middle that many ovals show. Look at the photo or video and choose a stone where it is faint.

What is the best length-to-width ratio for an oval?

Most people like 1.30 to 1.50. Lower looks fuller and rounder; higher looks longer and slimmer.
